The splendor and uniqueness of Sasaab, a luxury safari lodge located in Northern Kenya near the Samburu National Reserve, lies in its breezy open-air interior, its pristine natural surroundings, and its commitment to conservation and to the community. This is exactly why we chose this lodge, and if you read their website and all the good that comes out of this company, it is truly remarkable. As a tourist who wants to help and learn, it just feels right to spend money and time at the Safari Collection properties, and getting there is half the fun. https://www.thesafaricollection.com/properties/sasaab/

If you book through the Safari Collection, they will arrange your travel and can also plan all of your safari experiences. We didn’t realize that until we were actually there and would explore that next time. Their website is excellent and details all of the options they are able to arrange. We had hired a safari outfitter (Rothschild Safaris) to assist in planning the entire journey through three different African countries. Nevertheless, if you are in Nairobi first, as we were– staying at Giraffe Manor, another Safari Collection property, you will be shuttled to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to catch a flight to Samburu. This is an exhilarating travel experience in a small bush plane. There is something about viewing the land and animals from the air that adds to the exquisite beauty of magical Africa.

The hotel concierge is at your disposal to assist with excursions from riding camels, to guided hikes, safaris in the Samburu National Reserve, to cultural experiences like school and village visits. We wanted to do all of these, and the hotel was gracious and happy to assist.

The stunning vista from our thatched-roof bungalow was pure bliss– set on a river overlooking distant hills and the jagged peak of Mount Kenya. The Moroccan-inspired design added to the exotic feel and each room has an open-air bathroom and private plunge pool.  The food and service are second to none. If I could give this lodge a rating, I’d have to award 6/5 stars– it is already 5/5, but I am giving one extra because Sasaab makes a difference every day to the environment, the ancient land, and the people and animals living there. Go and experience the magic and all the good that is taking place in this community. It will make you want to be a part of something bigger, something greater, something positive, and something better than the best. https://www.thesafaricollection.com/properties/sasaab/
