“As you ascend the winding road on Silvermist estate, time seems to slow down. At each bend, as the city tilts away beneath you, you rise to new heights of quiet anticipation. There’s a reason you feel this way – you’re on top of a mountain and about to dine at the new incarnation of La Colombe, frequent contender on our Top 10 list and no stranger to S.Pellegrino’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants.” This quote could not be more accurate taken from this incredible restaurant’s website! La Colombe is situated on the Western Cape in South Africa in what seems like a world away from the city; through windy roads and far up on a hill where beautiful greenery and estates are passed as you enter the gates to this restaurant. If Africa were part of the Michelin ratings, this one would be included as one of their top rated restaurants, hands down. The scene as you walk in is very modern chic, with very few tables, floor to ceiling windows, first class smells, with dim lighting for a romantic type setting. The menus are all tasting menus with flavors put together in a way I could never begin to imagine! The food is interactive-some being served with cute little scissors to cut open a piece of fruit to find another surprise inside, or a tuna can for you to open that is filled with not just tuna, but an explosion in your mouth. The bread course is served in what seems like a forrest display, complete with moss and branches, while dessert is served with dry ice. Every dish looks like a beautiful garden and sometimes you question what is edible and what is not! Kelly and I could not rave more about every single bite we had at this establishment. The waitstaff were very educational about all of the food and flavors and how it pairs exactly with each glass of wine-making for a whole evening experience. Oh and the bill almost threw both of us off our chairs at how inexpensive it was compared to other restaurants of this caliber! Nothing in South Africa was fancy, so don’t feel like this is a suit and tie only place, but an upscale casual dress code. We hold our time at La Colombe as one of the main highlights of our Africa trip, and we are certain you will too! https://www.lacolombe.co.za/food
